The Chantry Chinook Classic starts up July 23 and runs to Aug 7th. This derby is hosted by the Lake Huron Fishing Club. This popular event takes place on Lake Huron and info can be obtained at www.chantrychinook.com
Huron anglers are reporting decent catches of salmon and lake trout from Kincardine to Sauble Beach. Fish have been reported in depths of 80 to 150 feet of water, suspended 40 to 70 feet down. Spoons seem to be the key fishing Huron, with the local favorites being the HOTFISH in silver blue, green glow, and glow frog pattern.
Fishing in Owen Sound Bay has been spotty, but chinooks are showing up in the bay as the summer wears on. Catches of salmon have been reported along the west shore from Indian River out to Cape Commadore. This is the tradional area where Owen Sound anglers intercept the migrating chinooks before they set-up and stage in Thomson's Hole. Favorite baits for O.S. chinooks are: Hotfish spoons, Lymans, Silver Foxes and cutbait/anchovies behind Hotspot flashers.
Local bass fishing has been HOT. The scorching hot temps have turned the largemouth bite on big time. The Grey Bruce Bass Club held an event locally this week and had some spectacular fish come to the scale. Winning weight was 5 fish for 18.13lb, and two seperate fish over 6lbs were weighted in!
