June 14 - June 22

News from the Store

Busy time at Watson's Tackle House!  Hence the delay of a couple days with the latest Blog.

Drew Watson is happy to announce that the summer's stock of bass tackle has arrived!  New to the store this season is a line-up of bass baits that will have the local angler's thumbs sore from catching so many bass!  Topwater baits, crankbaits and lipless cranks from Koppers Live Target Lures are in stock.  Snagproof "Ish Manroe" Frogs, Yum Dingers, and Strike King Tubes are on the shelves.  Also, to appease the growing crowd of bass fanatics, Watson's has added Strike King spinnerbaits and flipping jigs to the racks!  Some of these products cannot be found anywhere, even BassPro Shops!  If you haven't heard the rage on the Berkley Gulp line-up of soft plastic baits than you are missing the boat....and Drew Watson has them in stock.
Check out the links for these new products!

Watson's has added more products from Wave Lures, including the ever popular "Tiki Sticks" and a new Wave Swim Bait.  Watson's has been selling these soft plastics for more than 5 years, and they have a religeous following with the local bass tournament anglers.  Tiki man catches fish!  http://www.wavefishing.com/

If your looking for premium bass hooks to match with the selection of soft plastics, Watson's has 'em.  Choose from a good selection of Eagle Claw, Owner and the new TroKar hooks in sizes 1/0 to 5/0.

To go along with all these new bass baits, Watson's has boosted his selection of rods and reels from Quantum, Berkley, Fenwick, and Abu-Garcia.  The world's #1 low-profile baitcast reel; the Abu-Garcia Revo STX is now in store!

New ladder stands for the upcoming fall deer/bear season are now in.  Choose from both single and double man ladder stands.  Looking for a "hang on" style stand?  Watson's has them as well.  While on the topic, don't forget to pick up your deer tag and apply for your antlerless seal...time is up at the end of June for doe tags!

Gun of the week at Watson's:
-1yr old, Benelli Super Black Eagle 2, 3-1/2in chamber in 12ga.  Stock #UG0029 for a great price of $1495.00  This gun would go nicely with the upcoming waterfowl season in Grey/Bruce this fall!

Local Hunting and Fishing News.

Hunting is nill at the moment.  Marksmen are keeping sharp at the range and in farm fields with the local groundhog populations.

Salmon fishing has been decent the past week or so, with good catches coming from Wiarton and Lake Huron.  Fish are fairly shallow, being caught in the top 50 feet of the water column in depths from 60 to 150 feet of water.  Hot tickets have been Hotfish spoons off planer boards, Walker Deeper Divers and riggers set high.  Pay attention to surface temps, as they dictate where the fish are located.  Warm water patches offshore seem to be the deciding factor when it comes to finding the fish.  Surface temps are creeping over 50F on Huron and 5 to 10 degrees F colder on the Georgian Bay side.  Finding temps that change by a few degrees will attract bait and the salmon!

Local bass season opens up next weekend (June 25).  Until then, both largemouth and smallmouth are out of season!  It is illegal to target these fish, whether you release them or not!  Local MNR enforcement will see that this rule is enforced this time of year, as the bass are spawning and become easy targets for poachers!

If your an avid bass angler, look into joining the Grey Bruce Bass Club.  This stuctured members club hosts local bass tournament events across Grey and Bruce Counties throughout the season.  There are both Saturday and Wednesday 2man team events, with the championship tournament in early September, plus a late fall smallmouth event on the Penninsula.  This club has a strong membership with all levels of anglers and is always looking for new members. Come join, fish a few events, have some fun and learn alot!  You can check them out at http://www.gbbass.ca/
